Coaches in Blue
Memories of Horse-Drawn Carriages! This is one of my favorite fall tablescapes,
and since I created it for a 2007 cooking column, I have reset it a couple of times. My Royal Wessex china is in a pattern
that is called many things. The horse-drawn coach is in front of an inn, so I’ve seen it named “Coach” and
“Royal Coach” and “Royal Inn”. I bought the china at an antique shop a few years ago because I cannot
resist anything that has to do with horse-drawn transportation! My lifetime memories are filled with experiences with a father
who loved horses … and built wagons, sulkies and sleighs that were pulled by ponies, horses and goats! I’ve posted
a couple of those photographs, too!
So, I share this tablescape with my blogging friends! The stagecoach and covered
wagon are toys from the 1950’s and certainly create lots of table talk, when used as part of a composed centerpiece.
The hand-thrown pottery pitchers are filled with wheat and the candle holders are bronze looking twisted wheat. They sit atop
an old wooden cigar mold. Notice the little bundle of wheat candle. I love to send my guests home with a treat, so they each
took home a similar candle. The glasses are just another color in one of my favorite Fostoria patterns, Mignon.
I
had actually spotted the fabric I used for the table covering … before I bought the dishes. You can probably see the
print in this new blog layout I’ve converted to … but an 1800’s farmstead is depicted with great detail,
including wheat!
