Alongi's Italian Restaurant is 77 Years Old!

This easy salad is made with my favorite Italian salad dressing ... from my favorite Italian restaurant ... Alongi's ... in DuQuoin, Illinois!  All you have to do is slice a vine ripe tomato and layer it with fresh mozzarella ... drizzle with a little Alongi's dressing and add fresh basil for extra flavor!

Come to Southern Illinois and have a meal with the Alongi family ... you'll find one of the in the restaurant almost all the time!   If you can't visit in person, you can still buy the dressing at  www.alongis.com

It can't be easier than a cheese board!  Make sure you choose a variety of cheeses - something hard, something creamy and something soft!  Soft, warm breadsticks are perfect alongside.

Here are some other simple ideas!  Everybody loves deviled eggs, but they don't take time to make them!  I serve them almost everytime I have an appetizer buffet, and they disappear before anything else does.

We all love our coffee hot spots, but you can make it at home!  You don't even need flavored coffee beans.   Just add a cinnamon stick to your beans when you grind them ... or sprinkle cinnamon over the coffee before you brew it.   Flavor the pot with extracts like almond or orange.  Top it with whipped cream, sprinkles, caramel or chocolate syrup.

Don't hesitate to check our your supermarket deli for great salami and cheeses.   Appetizers don't have to be totally homemade to be totally good!

Appetizers don't have to take lots of your valuable time.   Wrap proschuitto around chunks of cantalope and secure them with a pick.   Mound them in the middle of your favorite platter and surround them with other fresh fruits like grapes and cherries.  Everybody loves the combination of salty proschuitto with the sweet, juicy melon!
