On the Road to Morocco
This little lamp launched the party
theme!
"On the Road to Morocco" was given birth while I
stood in the back room of the Goodwill store on a rainy afternoon! Every time I take a box of things to give to
Goodwill, I see something I have to buy ... and sometimes I come out with more stuff than I take in! I spotted ten little
red candle lamps and bought them all. I knew they would make great centerpieces, standing alone or in groups,
so I grabbed them!
The theme emerged as I remembered the dinnerware I had
purchased the year before at Pier 1 and thought of the place-mats I had just seen at Kohl's! I had the perfect
glasses, a cookbook full of Moroccan recipes and the rest is history! My staff had worked for months compiling a cookbook
filled with recipes using southern Illinois products and I knew they were ready for a meal that didn't resemble the home-grown
foods they'd been writing about!

The hand-painted table runner was a steal from Big Lots!
The colors and pattern worked perfectly with the dinnerware.
The double tagine is actually perfect for serving freshly ground
salt and pepper!
After I found a big tagine to use for my Lemon Olive Chicken,
I started searching, online, for tiny tagines. Even though they are typically used to serve spices and condiments, I
just wanted them to add to the composed centerpiece ... to use with my lamps! I located them on several websites, but
had to buy them from three different places in order to get the colors I wanted! "Long walk is part of gift!"
The table appointments were casual but unique and prompted lots
of conversation about Moroccan foodways.
